I'm probably not going to make it into an famous sayings anthologies with that one ... so I've decided to use quotes from one of the biggest failures of all time: Thomas Edison.Failure!?! Edison? Edison invented the light bulb, phonograph, film projector, and single-handedly filed 1,903 patents. He tamed electricity. We wasn't a failure! Actually, he failed a WHOLE lot more than he succeeded. To achieve all of these things he failed hundreds, no THOUSANDS, of time.
Edison said, "I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work."
What does this mean to you? Chances are ... you're going to fail some of these CPSU tests. Maybe even all of them. They're hard. Why are they hard? Because as our Chairman of CPSU said in the kick off video, "We are a complex company." These are pass/fail tests because you need a perfect knowledge of these facts. Take the CPSU tests. Pass them, and if you don't ... learn from your failures and then pass them. I doubt it will take any of us 10,000 attempts to pass these tests.
Now that we've all had a chance to take a couple of tests, and we've got a good feel for how CPSU works, let me remind you of what the objectives of CPSU are. The goal of CPSU is for every employee to:- Understand industry and company terms. (What is a skep?)
- Be more confident in answering customers questions. (Can I get a vacuum seal on a plastic container with a plastisol lid?)
- Become more capable in your daily functions. (What are some tips for good email writing?)
- Unify knowledge and company jargon (I might call it a bottle, but it's really a canister.)
- Become more unified with co-workers through friendly banter and competition. (I'm a Novice and you're still a Grunt!)
- Free merchandise from the CPSU Store
- A free poster with every level upgrade
- Competition (who's going to become a master ninja first?)
- Rank advancements (peon, grunt .... master ninja)
"I am not discouraged, because every wrong attempt discarded is another step forward."
Well said Keith. May I add one thought? I have heard it said that these CPSU tests are setting us up to fail. Now the question is this - is that a bad thing?
