It is that time of year again when we begin to turn our hearts to the holidays. We have our Christmas Party coming up on the 24th of December and with that comes our Christmas Raffle. Just a brief explanation for those who have never spent a Christmas with us - Our party is held during work hours on the 24th. We are all expected to be at work from 8:00-12:00 with a half day of holiday pay. However, our party will be from 10:00-12:00 at the Eagle Hills Golf Course, which is about 2 minutes from our warehouse in Idaho. This means that you get paid to party - so please make it to the party. You also get to invite a significant other of your choice to enjoy the meal and the activities. Kentucky and Utah will be holding their own lunches at the same time at a location of their choice. During the festivities this year, we will be enjoying the premier of our CPS Got Talent production, delicious food, and the Christmas Raffle.
There is one item of business I need to address before continuing. We have been informed that the IRS does not approve of gift raffles without each of you paying the taxes on the gift you receive. We will need to report all gifts (except the extra Vacation Time) on your W-2 for the tax year of 2012. This is slightly annoying and frustrating, but I hope that you will still find the gifts worthwhile. Just keep it in mind if you win the Big One - it does come with an extra tax burden.
In preparation for the raffle, I do need your help. Under the Human Resource tab of SAM - you will see the the term Christmas Raffle. Please click on that and go through and learn about each gift that will be available during the raffle. Please express interest in the ones that meet your fancy. Just an FYI - everyone will be listed as interested in the gift cards. Those are not optional. Every other gift we have listed is valued over $200.00 +. If you do not select that you are interested in something, you cannot win it. The deadline for selecting your interest is December 13th. If you fail to log in and review the gifts, then you will only be eligible to win a gift card.
The drawing will take place before the party to insure that gifts are at the proper locations before Christmas (Idaho, Utah, Kentucky). The random drawing will be done in the presence of multiple witnesses to insure that there is no funny business, for anyone who may be concerned about such a thing. The good news is this: The worst you can do on that day is win a $150.00 gift card . . . not too shabby. So it should be a good day for everyone.
Hopefully, the idea of the Christmas Raffle and the fun festivities will not distract us from remembering what is most important at this time of year. We hope you have plenty of time to be with family and loved ones, remembering that they are the reason we are all here working so hard. Thanks to everyone for all that you do to make this company successful. We are truly blessed to have so many great people to work with.

Thanks for doing this. It's always fun to look forward to.
ReplyDeleteSo what WOULD the tax be on the major gifts? I have to make sure I have the money to spend the money hahaha :)
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately I can't answer that question. Different tax brackets for different people. The value of the gift just gets added to your taxable income.
ReplyDeleteAlso - another good question. Someone asked which gift we draw for first? The answer is Disneyland - we just display it last at the raffle to build the anticipation. So everyone who is interested in the trip for 2 will be a part of that drawing since we find that out first.
